The Economic Development Group is actively involved in improving the business climate of our county by increasing the tax base, helping existing businesses expand and become more profitable, and attracting new businesses to our community.

History of the Organization

The Economic Development Group was created in 1998 and designated by the Kittitas County Commissioners as the Associate Development Organization for the county.

In 2004 the organization changed their name from Phoenix Economic Development Group to The Economic Development Group of Kittitas County (EDGKC) to better reflect the organization as a whole.

The Economic Development Group of Kittitas County is a nonprofit corporation with a Federal [501(c)3] tax status and is governed by a 21-member Board of Directors.

2006 Committees and Tasks

Executive Committee

Mission: To facilitate strategic planning and Board development, and to oversee the other committees and some task forces.

Tasks:

Mission Ridge – Study to determine if access from Kittitas County feasible

I-90 Expansion – Promote the I-90 Expansion Project

CWU Tech Park – Participate in the planning and implementation

Comp Plans Implementation – Provide input and implement the new Comp Plan

 

Business Recruitment, Retention & Expansion Committee

Mission: To help recruit new businesses to Kittitas County, and to help retain and expand existing businesses.

Tasks:

Developable Sites – Facilitate site availability with zoning and infrastructure

Capture Opportunities – Identify/capture economic development opportunities

 

Research & Development Committee

Mission: To explore new sources of business development for Kittitas County.

Tasks:

Jobs of the Future – Identify the future job market and workforc

Economic Research – Identify/conduct any needed economic research

Downtown Business Incubator – Promote a new Incubator with retail focus

Changing Demographics – Track the changing demographics of the County

 

Community Relations Committee

Mission: To provide education and community awareness about the Economic Development Group and it’s mission.

Tasks: Regional Economic Update Event – Sponsor a conference to report updates
